As the country continues to adjust to easing lockdown measures, businesses find themselves also easing restrictions in inviting employees to return to the workplace and visitors through their doors. It is therefore imperative that employers understand to what extent they are opening themselves up to Employment Tribunal claims by asking either employees or visitors for proof of vaccination. To that end, what are fair and objective reasons for asking for proof? What risks might arise when employees or visitors refuse to provide proof, and what legal claims might arise as a result? These are all issues I will deal with in this article.
Mental health is not a new issue in the workplace, but its recognition and importance continues to grow. As public figures from a broad spectrum of industries, including Tyson Fury, Anne-Marie and Zoella, continue to advocate an acceptance of talking openly about their issues with mental health, workplaces must also ensure that they have the ability to have open and authentic conversations with their workforce about mental health in a safe and secure environment.
This week marks National Apprenticeship Week across England. Hallett & Co currently have a Solicitor Apprentice, Bethany-Jo Bevis, at the firm. Bethany has been with us since September 2016 and started her Solicitor Apprenticeship with the University of Law in September 2018. The apprenticeship is a level 7 course stretching of 5-6 years where Bethany studies for a LLB in Law and Legal Practice and will qualify as a solicitor.

Bethany joined the firm in September 2016 as a Legal Secretary before enrolling with the University of Law in 2018 under their Solicitor Apprenticeship scheme.
During the course of the apprenticeship, Bethany graduated in 2023 with a First Class Degree in Legal Practice and Skills. She then undertook and passed the new Solicitor Qualifying Exams, before qualifying as a Solicitor in the firm’s litigation department in November 2024.

Mark qualified as a solicitor in 1985, became a Partner in 1988 and was Senior Partner from 2015 to March 2026.
Mark can provide the full range of commercial and business conveyancing services, ranging from drafting of leases and tenancies to dealing with the purchases of offices, shops and businesses.
